Samsung Overtakes Apple Again in Smartphone Sales

애플과 삼성은 다른 듯 하지만 공통점을 갖고 있다.

애플의 performance가 soaring 해왔고 (1년 새 75% 상승) 미국 경제에서 차지하는 부분이 크며 (Apple revenue makes up 0.84% of the U.S. GDP) 헤지펀드의 온상이 되어온 것은 주지의 사실이다. 삼성 역시 한국 경제에서 차지하는 비중이 크고 주가가 지난 7개월 새 두 배로 뛰었다.

또한 애플과 삼성 모두 협력업체들의 마진을 짜내고 있다는 공통점을 갖고 있다.

삼성은 물론 애플보다 훨씬 다양한 사업 포트폴리오를 갖고 있는 기업이지만 (혹자는 한 때 미국의 제조기업을 대표하던 GE가 더 이상 제조회사가 아닌 financial company로 전락했다고 주장한다) 스마트폰의 경우 현재의 경제상황을 고려할 때 훗날 역사가들이 버블 경제의 마지막 거품들 중의 하나로 지적할 지 모르겠다. 이전에 포스팅한 article에서도 언급이 되었듯이 스마트폰의 성공과 유행은 혁신의 의미를 다시금 생각하게 한다.

Samsung Electronics overtook Apple again as the biggest smartphone seller in the global market in the first quarter this year. The two firms have played musical chairs with the top position since last year.

Business magazine Forbes on Monday quoted a market report released by Canaccord Genuity investment banking saying Samsung was on top with 28.2 percent of the global market share from selling 41 million smartphones from January to March.

Apple came second with 32.6 million smartphones and a 22.4 percent market share.
